November 27, 2015 - Fun Flight on Black Friday |
It's Black Friday, the day after Thanksgiving. The weather was nice, so instead of going shopping -- not really my thing -- I asked my Sister's husband Tony if he'd like to go flying. He didn't think long. "Oh, yeah". So off we went. Tony had flown with me once before. That time we flew down to Cambridge for lunch. I'd show him some different things this time. First, we flew west to show Tony the city of Baltimore and the Pimlico racetrack. Then I thought he might like to see the Baltimore Raven's practice facility. A few of the players were actually outside practicing. We made a circle around the practice facility then turned north for Carroll County airport to refuel. After Carroll County, it was east back across Baltimore, mark on top Essex Skypark, then continue east to the Eastern Shore. The next stop was my nephew Nick's house north of Ridgely. I texted him in flight to tell him I was coming. It worked; I soon received a response of "We'll be waiting." First time I've ever texted in flight before. I wonder if it is illegal like in driving cars? Probably difficult to enforce though. Nick's house is lower left with the smoke in the back yard. He took a nice video of our fly over.

After Nick's house, it was a few minutes southeast to Georgetown Airport (KGED), Delaware for lunch at their on-field restaurant. We then continued east to the coast and flew down the beach. Here we are approaching Ocean City, Maryland.
The sun really lit it up. There were quite a few people on the beach on this relatively warm day for late November.
Another over the shoulder look north at Ocean City.
We continued following the beach south to Assateague Island.
An abandoned house sits forlornly overlooking the ocean.
Looking to the north. | ||||||
Vehicles were parked on the beach every 500 feet or so.
Just hanging out on the beach, fishing and drinking beer probably.
A few of the wild ponies Assateague Island is known for.
Close up. | ||||||
Passing by the bridge to Assateague Island.

Passing by Ocean City Airport. In the summer, it is packed with airplanes. Today it is deserted.

Another look at Ocean City.
The big Jolly Waters water park where I had many fun times with the kids.
Pretty sunset crossing the Bay back to the Skypark.
